DPF stands for Diesel Particulate Filter, a device that traps and stores exhaust soot from diesel engines to reduce harmful emissions, DPFs are used to reduce the number of hazardous particulates that escape from diesel vehicles, making the surrounding air cleaner and safer.
Removes soot from the DPF to prevent clogging and reduce engine performance
Heats the DPF to a very high temperature to burn off the soot
Usually happens automatically while driving, but can be initiated manually in certain conditions
The ECU monitors soot accumulation and starts an alternative regeneration program if normal regeneration conditions aren't met
A forced regeneration typically takes 30–60 minutes
